1. The critical step: From rookie to professional
When you receive your team, Hattrick assigns you a Passable (3) coach with Poor (2) leadership.
Lab Recommendation: Keeping the starting coach is a losing decision in the medium term. Your first major investment must be a Solid (4) coach with Poor (2) leadership.
Cost: Approximately €79,600. This investment will make your players grow at a much faster and more profitable rate.
Maximize training speed without breaking the bank.
External Recruitment
You choose the skill level and leadership and pay a fixed price. This is the fastest option for beginners.
- Recommended option when looking for your first "Solid" coach.
- Limitation: External coaches cannot play matches.
Player Conversion
You can convert a player who has been at the club for at least 16 weeks and has at least "Weak" experience.
- Savings: The more experience they have, the cheaper the conversion cost.
- Duality: They can keep playing and they retain their player skills.
🧠 Key Attributes & Mentality
Skill (Training)
From 1 to 5. Solid (4) is the gold standard. Excellent (5) is about 5% faster but extremely expensive.
Leadership (TS)
Determines how fast team spirit (TS) returns to its base level. Vital for competing with PIC (Play It Cool) attitudes.
Tactical Mentality
Offensive: +Attack / -Defence
Defensive: ++Defence / -Attack
Neutral: No changes.
Coach Deterioration
Coaches have an expiration date. After one season (16 weeks) at the club:
Phase 1: Leadership drops by 1 level approximately every 18 weeks.
Phase 2: Once leadership hits "Disastrous", coaching skill begins to drop.
Once you hire a replacement, the old coach stays as a normal player. They cannot become a coach again and cannot be sold; you can only play them or fire them.
Advanced Tip: Many managers buy veteran players with "Excellent" experience and "Solid" leadership to convert them into coaches after one season. This is the most cost-effective way to get an elite coach with high leadership.
