Non-trainable attribute (match play only)Experience is one of Hattrick's most decisive attributes, simulating the knowledge a player gains throughout their career. It positively affects their actions on the pitch without being directly linked to their technical skills.
1. How is experience gained?
Experience is only earned by playing matches. The amount received depends entirely on the importance of the match:

Experience is what makes "old players" (veterans) so useful for low-budget teams that need immediate performance without having to train them.
2. Direct Match Effects
Experience acts as a "cushion" against negative events and as a performance booster:
Individual Performance
An experienced player performs better in their position than a rookie with the same technical skills.
Avoiding Confusion
If the team plays an untrained formation, high player experience reduces the risk of confusion and rating drops.
Nerve Control
In Cup or Promotion matches, a less experienced team may get nervous and perform poorly in the second half.
Penalties
Experience is the most important factor when taking penalties in a shootout.
Cards
Inexperienced players are more likely to receive yellow and red cards due to immature actions.
3. Experience Special Events (SE)
Experience can generate goals on its own through specific match actions:
Forwards/Wingers: Experienced players can use their savvy to create a goal-scoring chance out of nowhere.
Defenders/Midfielders: If inexperienced, they may commit blunders that gift a clear opportunity to the opponent.
4. Captain and Coach
The Captain
Choosing an experienced captain is vital, as their level is used to calculate total team experience and prevent nerves or general confusion during the match.
Future Coach
Experience determines the maximum level a player can reach as a coach and drastically reduces their conversion cost.
